Meet Ashley Curl

It’s rare for Columbus Monthly to feature someone in an issue who later ends up working with us. But such is the case with Ashley Curl.
Ashley was one of the high-profile Central Ohioans modeling the latest in fall fashions at local boutiques and department stores in our September 2010 edition. (For those interested, she wore a Phillip Lim handbeaded double handkerchief dress from Jinny in the Short North.)
Now, she is the marketing and events manager for Columbus Media Enterprises, which consists of Columbus Monthly, The Other Paper, Suburban News Publications, Columbus C.E.O. and all of our other affiliated publications.
There will be plenty to keep her busy as we ramp up our event marketing strategy. In fact, one of her first responsibilities will be organizing Columbus Monthly’s Single in the City party on May 16 at DeepWood restaurant downtown. (More details to come.)
She has plenty of experience in the field. For six years, she worked with the small but well-connected Hinson Ltd. Public Relations firm. Ashley was involved in fundraisers held at the estate of Les and Abigail Wexner and helped run an extravagant tailgate party for high rollers from Texas in town for the Ohio State-University of Texas football game a few years ago. Two other notable events were for President George W. Bush and U.S. Sen. John McCain, when he was running for president in 2008.
“I’m very excited. This is a dream job,” she says. “I’m passionate about event planning and I love the media, which is why this job is a perfect fit for me.”
And Ashley brings a bonus talent—that is, if the company were looking to form a basketball team. A standout at Granville High School, she played two seasons for the powerhouse women’s squad at Capital University before “retiring,” as she calls it.
In any case, we’re pleased Ashley has come to this side of the fence, so to speak.
The deadline for the Columbus Monthly Homes Renovation Contest is approaching. You have until April 15 to send us your three before and after photos of any one of the following rooms, with a brief description of the renovation: kitchen, bathroom, master bedroom, living room or family room. (Photographs must be submitted by homeowners.)
Your submission should include the homeowner’s address and contact information. Renovations completed by professional contractors will be accepted. We will make home visits once finalists are selected and feature the winning entries in Columbus Monthly Homes Guide to Remodeling in the August issue.
There’s also time to fill out your Best of Columbus ballot if you haven’t already. (For details, see page 122 or go to columbusmonthly.com.) By the way, we’re offering some cool prizes.
After completing your ballot, you also have a chance to sign up for our e-newsletter, which allows you to get a sneak preview of the upcoming issue, as well as notices on events and deals. You can join by going to columbusmonthly.com and clicking on “e-newsletter” in the horizontal silver bar near the top of the home page.
