Alissa Griffith & Joe Henry

You might say Alissa Griffith and Joe Henry’s Feb. 12 wedding was a star-studded affair. The couple, who exchanged vows at Creekside Conference & Event Center, welcomed Mayor Mike Coleman as a guest, as well as a television crew from TLC’s “Say Yes to the Dress.” (More on that later.)
Griffith, who worked on Coleman’s social media efforts in 2011 during his reelection campaign, met Henry at World Harvest Church when she was volunteering there two years ago. (Henry works in the church’s TV studio.) They both enjoyed spending time together, and after a group outing turned into an unofficial first date when their friends couldn’t attend, the two realized they had an immediate, special connection.
Less than a year later, Henry proposed to Griffith after an elaborate scavenger hunt that involved her apartment, his house, a Walgreens and, finally, a Cold Stone Creamery. When Griffith sat on a bench next to Henry, he pulled out his phone and called her mother, who lives in Atlanta, to ask permission to marry her daughter. (Griffith’s mother didn’t know the call was coming, but, of course, offered her blessing.)
After their engagement, Griffith saw a link online to apply for Atlanta’s “Say Yes to the Dress.” She was thrilled when the producers selected her. The show taped her fitting with her mom and sister in Atlanta last summer before she returned to Ohio with her dream dress.
In January, producers also notified Griffith they would send a film crew to the couple’s wedding, where they spent 12 hours documenting the ceremony and reception, among other things. A fun side note: Because the couple got married on a Sunday, and the couple arranged for Cold Stone to serve ice cream treats at the reception, they refer to their big day as the “Sundae” wedding.
After a honeymoon to the Caribbean, they now reside in Pickerington.
