Elegant Iron Studios, located in West Alexandria, Ohio, designs high-end iron works for residential and commercial uses.
Owner Patrick Dalton says his company usually is working on 20 to 25 projects at a time, and the lead time to obtaining a finished product is 12 to 16 weeks.
He employs five full-time staff members, who build, finish and install the designs. “All of our people have a high sense of ownership,” Dalton says, adding that he is in Columbus about once a week. “I don’t design in a vacuum.” For more information and to read about residential stairways Dalton has designed in Columbus, visit elegantiron.com.
Tickleberry Moon

Tickleberry Moon, 123 E. Broadway, opened in Granville earlier this year with an infantile focus. “When I had my son, we wanted natural and organic products, so I thought, ‘Why not put them in a store?’ ” says Olivia Haas, who worked as an emergency room nurse for nine years before she and co-owner, Mary Jo Spinks, opened the new shop.
Products sold in the store include Bébé au Lait nursing covers, which are available in several bright floral patterns ($35). All plastic products, including food dishes and bath toys, are free of Bisphenol A, which is thought to be a hazardous component in some plastics.
You’ll also find onesies from Alicia Gaston, who is based in Grandview, which include Ohio State-inspired designs, as well as a variety of baby and toddler blankets ($18-$98). There’s also an array of Moby baby wraps ($39). “We’re providing a modern way to mother,” says Haas. The shop is open Monday through Saturday, 10 am to 5:30 pm. Shop online at tickleberrymoon.com.
Transforming granite and glass
By Sherry Beck Paprocki
Engineered countertops are becoming more common and when it comes to a renovation, they can provide a simple solution. Granite Transformations, 4340 Lyman Dr. in Hilliard, offers recycled glass countertops and engineered granite counters.
And there’s an interesting caveat. “We can go over the existing surface, so there is no demolition needed,” explains John Brooks, local franchise owner. “We basically cover the existing countertop with a quarter-inch thick piece of engineered granite.” That original counter can be made of anything, ranging from tile to laminate to plywood to other types of surfaces.
Granite Transformations, an international company, breaks slabs of granite into tiny pieces and combines them with a resin polymer to create a product that is resistant to heat, stains, scratches and heavy impact. Recycled glass countertops feature a variety of glass bottles that have been crushed and restyled into counter materials.
But what is the difference between engineered granite and the solid rock? Brooks says it is mainly in the weight of the final product, perhaps causing less stress on cabinets that support the countertop. In addition, he adds, his products have a “green” feature. Although it’s obvious in the reuse of glass bottles from soda, beer, vodka and the like, he explains that crushed granite can include the imperfect pieces of rock that aren’t selected for the solid slab granite countertops.
Allergy-free curtains

CleanRest allergy blocking window panels, available at Bed Bath & Beyond, are included in a new line of window treatments introduced this year by CleanBrands.
Aimed at controlling the natural buildup of household allergens, CleanRest curtain panels resist dust mite infestation and are easily cleaned using any standard home washer and dryer.
The curtains are available in six decorative colors and two unique fabric constructions: formal faux silk and casual weave. Both come in a wide variety of panel sizes, starting at $39.99.
“Until now, consumers were limited to wood or vinyl blinds if allergy avoidance was a critical preference,” said Gary Goldberg, founder and chief executive officer of CleanBrands. “The curtains can be tumbled dry and hung back up, just like washing your sheets.”
In addition to the new window treatments, CleanRest also offers bedding that provides a barrier against toxins, allergens and bed bugs. View CleanRest products at cleanrest.com.
