“I’ve kept my hair the same for a long time because I’m afraid of what will happen if I change it.”
THE LOOK:
“We wanted to take her closer to her natural color—it’s a lot less maintenance, and that way she can see adding highlights as a luxury rather than a necessity,” says J. Bentley stylist Tyra Harris. Harris cut off just a quarter-inch of length but added in graduated layers to give Dieckman’s thick hair more movement and a shape that will look nice even on days she decides to air-dry her curls. To style, she blow-dried Dieckman’s hair using a round brush and curled the ends using a flat iron. She touched up stray frizzy pieces by smoothing the side of the flat iron on top of them—giving small stray hairs some indirect heat to stay in place.
“Before, my color looked fake and brassy and blah. This gives me more confidence—it’s a pick-me-up.”
