Home & Garden Show: Your Renovation Destination returns!
Find everything you need for your home—inside and out—when Scioto Valley presents the 2013 Columbus Dispatch Home & Garden Show
Have you ever gone over to a neighbor’s house for a party under the stars or an early fall picnic and thought to yourself, “Why can’t I have an oasis like this?”
You can make that dream a reality Feb. 23 through March 3, when Scioto Valley presents the 2013 Columbus Dispatch Home & Garden Show at the Ohio Expo Center. At the
show, 10 gardens designed by some of Central Ohio’s top landscapers—all themed around outdoor living—will take your breath away. You’ll even be able to see how some landscapers incorporated fire elements into their gardens.
Need even more inspiration for your great outdoors?
The area between the show’s two buildings will feature backyard vignettes furnished by Scioto Valley, including a beach-themed area, a French Quarter-inspired living area, outdoor dining rooms with grills, fire pits, a hot tub, bars with stools and much more.
“What we’re seeing from Central Ohioans is an increased emphasis on transforming the outside of their homes into livable, comfortable spaces,” says Dispatch Shows Group General Manager Stephen Zonars. “We asked our landscape-design partners to incorporate this trend into their gardens—and, boy, have they hit it out of the park.”
If you’re looking to make improvements to the interior of your home, the show—produced in partnership with Closets By Design, Rosati Windows, Rite Rug and Ohio Mulch—will have that covered, too. Hundreds of experts and pros who can help you with any conceivable home-improvement need will be on hand. And to feed your do-it-yourself streak, the Lowe’s DIY Stage returns with continuous demonstrations and tips galore.
The Lowe’s stage is just one of four you’ll find at the Home & Garden Show.
New this year is the intimate Backyard Patio Stage, which will host a number of mini-demonstrations. The Franklin Park Conservatory and Botanical Gardens Stage returns with presentations by notables from the world of gardening and landscaping, including gardening writer Michael Leach.

And the Simple Bath Ohio Home Stage will host nightly wine tastings ($2 cover), presentations from designers involved with this year’s Decorators’ Show House, a floral-arranging competition (Feb. 23 at 11 a.m.) and cooking demonstrations from top local chefs participating in the Crave Cooking Series. It’s also the place where you’ll find Home & Garden Show headliners Jonathan and Drew Scott—HGTV’s “Property Brothers”—who will make their first-ever Central Ohio appearance Sat., March 2, at 1 p.m. Get there early to grab a seat stageside for the ultra-popular duo, whose appearance is presented by WOW! Internet, Cable and Phone.\
Give. Win. Save.
When you walk through the outdoor living Garden Showcase presented by JD Equipment, you’ll have the opportunity to vote for the garden you like best—and benefit Nationwide Children’s Hospital at the same time. Each of the gardens will have a clear box where you can drop a donation to Nationwide Children’s. The garden that receives the most donations by the end of the show will be named the People’s Choice Award-winner.

Make sure you try your hand at the nearby prize kiosk to win one of 500 prizes a day that will be awarded by the show and its partners. You can also stop by the Ohio Mulch booth to enter to win landscape-improvement packages worth thousands of dollars.
And, if you take a moment to complete the Columbia Gas of Ohio Guest Survey presented in partnership with Atlas Butler, you could win one of five home-energy audits that will be awarded daily.
The last day of the event, Sun., March 3, brings the show’s annual plant sale, where during the final hours of the show, garden-based exhibitors will offer pieces at drastically reduced prices.
An area for everyone
This year, the Home & Garden Show is bringing back some features that were popular with visitors in 2012, including the 97.1 The Fan Cave and the Bryant Heating and Cooling 97.1 The Fan Ultimate Garage, built and designed by Weaver Barns—which will be two stories this year. The Fan Cave will be the site of live 97.1 The Fan broadcasts during the show.

The Market Place is an even better experience this year, with a wider variety of products available. This special area of the show floor features accessories for your home and garden, including art pieces, bulbs and seeds, metal works and more. You can even purchase a beverage at the nearby café so you can sip while you stroll.
And you won’t want to miss the Kitchen Corner presented by Granite Transformations, which focuses on two of every home’s most important rooms, kitchens and bathrooms. Featured will be six custom-built kitchen setups and six bathroom vignettes, all decked out in the latest trends.
