Glass birds

Flamingos aren’t normally found roaming in central Ohio, but thanks to Garden Décor Accents, you can have a couple for your yard.

The company carries Beautiful Flamingo Garden Accents, a pair of bright glass and metal flamingos adorned with glass beads and wrought iron.

“We started selling the flamingos in spring 2012, and they have been our best sellers ever since,” says Diane Matteson with Garden Décor Accents. “Customers really like the glass color of the flamingos.”

“We have had customers tell us they like the elegance of the flamingo garden accent,” she adds.

Garden Décor Accents recently added to its inventory the Soothing Rock Fountain, a tiered piece that lights up and can be used indoors or outside.

Both items are available online and are sure to spruce up your outdoor living space. Visit gardendecoraccents.com for more information.

Transform your stairs

What did your staircase look like the first time you laid eyes on it? Was it a new, shiny wood, free of scuffmarks? Maybe it featured a carpet runner, placed perfectly and void of daily wear and tear.

Over time, your staircase aged, and now it’s in need of a serious makeover.  Unfortunately, that usually means a big bill and a major inconvenience … usually.

Now you have another option—and it comes from a local company.

The StareCasing Hardwood Overlay System, created by Jim McCool, allows you to transform your stairs with ease. Simply apply the hardwood product on top of your existing staircase. There’s no need to demolish your current stairs, and you can apply the StareCasing yourself, eliminating installation costs.

The StareCasing method involves two pieces: the StareTread and the StareRiser. After removing the carpet and cleaning the wood, apply the overlays with an adhesive. Each tread and riser is a separate piece.

“In about six or seven hours, you can do a complete transformation as long as the stairs are clean and sound,” McCool says. “You can go from carpet to hardwood, or just new hardwood that matches the floors and will be ready to use in the same day.”

StareCasing comes in a variety of grains and finishes, and is 100 percent hardwood. You could pay to have it installed, but McCool says the process is simple.

“And there’s a lot less sawdust to deal with.”

McCool says more than 700 dealers nationwide carry StareCasing. For more information visit starecasing.com
