Owner’s lifelong love of fashion deals inspires Boho 72 Boutique

As a child, Jamie Mollwitz would often accompany her interior decorator mother to merchandise marts, helping pick out fabrics and talking with vendors. She loved searching for the right pieces for every occasion (even volunteering to Christmas shop for others) and figured one day she’d have a shop of her own to sell her finds.
But it wasn’t until the death of a childhood friend just shy of her 50th birthday that Mollwitz, also approaching 50, decided to take a chance.
She drew upon frequent visits to boutiques in historic areas like Philadelphia as inspiration, using the stories and thoughts gathered from store owners as the foundation for her budding idea. Within eight months, in October 2011, the former stay-at-home mom opened Boho 72 Boutique, a Dublin shop where the decor is as clever as the clothes.
Earrings hang from chicken wire, old green shutters adorn the dressing room and a vintage postal cart holds funky lines like Lost, Black Sheep and Nick & Mo. Eclectic dresses, pants and shirts are meant to be effortlessly put together, and exclusivity to the customer is key: If an item sells out, Mollwitz doesn’t reorder. The store tracks who buys items for a certain event (so party guests don’t buy identical outfits) and creates customer wish lists.
“So many people don’t want to tell their friends about the store,” says Mollwitz, who runs her shop with her daughter Clair Salter and friendly chocolate lab Remi. “They want to keep this secret to themselves.”
