Don’t drink and dive

You could call it the city’s newest dive bar, but it’s not exactly that kind of place. Flannagan’s Dublin, on Sawmill Road near

I-270, added a 2,000-square-foot pool and swim-up bar, solidifying its position among the top summer bars in town. And, incidentally, it’s not quite deep enough for diving.

Flannagan’s, which already boasts 13 sand volleyball courts, debuted Elly Bay (named for an Irish beach) in late May as a way for the 21-and-up crowd to soak in rays while taking advantage of a full-service bar.

The pool, which has a dozen submerged barstools, is outfitted with water volleyball nets and a center island for use by deejays and musical acts, says owner David Straub.

Each Saturday during the summer, Elly Bay will host Burn, an all-day pool party. As part of Burn, Flannagan’s is putting on workout sessions with bodybuilder and Arnold Classic champion Mike Francois and hosting a special volleyball league. Sunday’s event, Detox, will provide more of a lounge atmosphere.

Admission is solely for those 21 and older (IDs required). For hours and admission rates, visit flannagans.com.
