Flip Side Trades Up

DISPATCH FILE PHOTOS

Following the successful opening of their first Columbus outpost at Easton, Akron-based Flip Side is planning to take over the space that once housed beloved novelty shop Yankee Trader at 463 N. High St.

Chef-owner Shawn Monday says the gourmet burger restaurant was drawn to the spot because of its proximity to a younger clientele who cares about the food they eat. “The Short North is what we’re all about as a concept,” Monday says.

Though the Short North location will start as just a restaurant, Monday says they’ve got big plans for the space’s basement: a craft-cocktail speakeasy.

But they’ll keep a nod to the building’s past displayed prominently—the owners plan to save the Yankee Trader’s storefront sign and hang it inside the restaurant. Look for Flip Side to open around the end of 2012.
