More on the controversial 3C rail proposal

Addicted at birth

I was appalled and disappointed to see the sidebar “A mom’s story” as part of the article “Addicted at birth” in the February issue. I felt that it was intended to make us have empathy and feel sorry for this woman.

Being a child born from a using mother, I have struggled through the years due to the direct effects of her usage. I was lucky enough to be adopted into my aunt and uncle’s family and because of all their support, love and guidance they have given me the best opportunities and chances in life to be a successful woman.

I will never understand, accept or have empathy for people with addictions. Their actions directly affect an unborn baby and this should be enough to stop.

I do hope for the best outcome that can come from the decisions that she has made and hope her son has the best life and opportunities that I have had. Ending the article by saying she is “determined to make her life better” does not make me feel her actions are acceptable or forgivable.

I hope she realizes how lucky she is to even be given the opportunity to have this child under her care and to raise him.

Train wreck

Although I enjoy Molly Willow’s sense of humor, the thoughts that she provoked in “Train wreck” in the January issue were downright scary when she wrote: “. . . we can’t afford anything. Which is why spending someone else’s money would have been so beneficial . . . the furniture he threw out was worth $400 million and free.”

I realize that it is difficult to complete a puzzle when the box top is missing and you can’t see the whole picture. Someone else’s money? Free? Really scary.

If columnist Molly Willow would care to see a train wreck, all she needs to do is look at Amtrak, subsidized by the taxpayers and a perennial money loser from the start. I applaud Gov. John Kasich for stopping the 3C rail line. The country is heading for bankruptcy and we do not have the money for politicians’ pet projects.

Kasich “threw out what was worth $400 million and free.” Oh, really? I’d like to know just where Molly thinks this “free” $400 million came from? The government gets all of its revenue, in one way or another, from Joe Taxpayer. Free money, indeed. Let’s finish one project first, like three complete lanes of I-71 from Cincinnati to Cleveland, instead of wasting more money on loser projects such as this slow-speed rail.
