Columbus has a variety of options for private education. The following list is not comprehensive, but includes the most significant institutions. Tuition rates are for the 2011-’12 school year unless otherwise noted. Many schools offer financial aid and discounts to qualifying families; some accept Ed Choice vouchers.
Catholic Schools, Diocese of Columbus, 197 E. Gay St. (offices), 221-5829. Preschool-grade 12, coed; 12 preschool-grade 8 schools, 11 K-grade 8, one preschool-grade 3, five college-prep high schools in Franklin County. Call for tuition rates. Some schools offer lower tuition for subsequent children.
Clintonville Academy, 3916 Indianola Ave., 267-4799. Pre-K-grade 8, coed. Traditional academic curriculum. Tuition (2010-’11): $7,042 for first child; $3,500 for three full days of pre-K. Discounts for siblings, prepayment and volunteer service.
Columbus Academy, 4300 Cherry Bottom Rd., Gahanna, 475-2311. Pre-K-grade 12, coed. College prep. Tuition: pre-K $9,800; K-grade 4 $17,800; grades 5-8 $18,500; grades 9-12 $20,200.
Columbus Jewish Day School, 150 E. Granville Rd., New Albany, 939-5311. K-grade 6, coed. Dual-language program integrating general and Judaic studies. Tuition: $14,400.
Columbus Montessori Education Center, 979 S. James Rd., 231-3790. Infants-grade 6, coed. Montessori curriculum. Tuition: infants and toddlers, full day, five days/week $1,199 per month; part-time toddler program $195-$513 per month; ages 3-6 $6,376-$9,182; kindergarten $7,368 (8:30 am-3:30 pm) or $9,182 (7:30 am-6 pm); grades 1-6 $7,228 (8:30 am-3:30 pm) or $9,100 (7:30 am-6 pm). Marburn Academy, 1860 Walden Dr., 433-0822. Grades 1-12, coed. College preparatory day school program for bright children with dyslexia and ADHD. Tuition: lower and middle division $19,800, high school $20,900.
Mater Dei Academy, 3695 Elm St., 231-1984. K-grade 8, coed. Independent school merging academics with Catholic teachings. Tuition (2010-’11): kindergarten, $1,400 per family; grades 1-8 $3,700 for first child; $4,300 per family for two or more children.
Northside Christian School, 2655 Schrock Rd., Westerville, 882-1493. Pre-K-grade 12, coed. Traditional Christian education and college prep. Tuition (2010-’11): pre-K $1,650-$4,600; kindergarten (5 half or whole days/week) $3,285 or $4,930; grades 1-6 $4,930; grades 7-8 $5,240; grades 9-12 $5,400. St. Charles Preparatory School, 2010 E. Broad St., 252-6714. Grades 9-12, male only. College prep; part of Catholic Diocese of Columbus schools. Tuition for families registered in a Catholic church (2010-’11): $7,990 first son, $7,290 second son, third son free. Nonregistered: $8,290 and $7,590, third son free.
St. Joseph Montessori School, 933 Hamlet St., 291-8601. Age 3-grade 8, coed. Traditional Montessori curriculum affiliated with the Catholic diocese. Tuition: $7,200-$8,650; discounts for siblings. Before- and after-school care extra.
Tree of Life Christian Schools, 471 E.
