Applauding Michael Wilkos

In praise of Wilkos

If Michael Wilkos is Columbus’s biggest fan, then I am Michael Wilkos’s biggest fan [“Columbus’s biggest fan”—September]. Finally, someone shines a spotlight on a true leader and trustee in our community—an authentic and passionate supporter of Columbus. He leads through action, not position.

As executive director of Leadership Columbus, I can attest to the fact that Michael is one of our most popular educators during the curriculum year. Our class is dazzled and impressed with this self-confessed “data nerd.” His energy, enthusiasm and wit, coupled with his extraordinary knowledge base regarding urban planning and development, make him a unique Columbus treasure.

Thank you, editor, for putting aside your skepticism and showcasing a very special Columbus trustee [“Upfront”-September]. Bring more people like Michael out of the shadows so we are privileged to get to know more of the people on the front lines who care deeply—for all the right reasons.

It is indeed not a revelation that leadership happens on the sidewalks as well as in the skyscrapers. Too often, however, our less obvious choices for recognition
are the ones that crave the attention the least—they don’t grab headlines, but, thankfully, they are beginning to make them.

Laurie Marsh
Executive director, Leadership Columbus

In Columbus Monthly’s Restaurant Guide, the hours for ZenCha Tea Salon in Bexley were listed incorrectly. It is open Monday through Friday 11 am to 9 pm, Saturday 10 am to 9 pm and Sunday 10 am to 6 pm.

On page 43 of the August issue of Columbus Monthly Homes, faucet No. 2 was misidentified. It is Dante’s double handle widespread lavatory faucet from the Bella Villa Collection and available from FaucetDirect for $389.35.
