Looking for summertime fashion inspiration? We recently asked a few local fashion gurus for their best summer style tips. Here, their advice:
*Ashley Barnhart, co-owner of Cheesecake Boutique (Upper Arlington): Being pregnant during the summer, I'm constantly looking for things I feel skinny and pretty in. I've purchased about 15 new maxi dresses in gorgeous prints. They are lightweight, show my new cleavage and hide a multitude of figure flaws that the joys of pregnancy provide. Also, my must-have accessory is a Chan Luu leather wrap bracelet, as seen on Lady Gaga, Rihanna and others. I purchased mine in NYC for $245 and later found a vendor that makes exact replicas that now retail at Cheesecake for $28.
*Lisa Ermine, director of the Fifth Avenue Club and manager of designer collections at Saks Fifth Avenue (Polaris Fashion Place): Be sure to have a great, lightweight summer dress either in white or print. And a pedicure enhances and completes your look with any summer shoe.
*Jin Fillinger, owner of jinny (Short North): Wearing breathable, easy knits all season to adjust to the blazing humidity can get stale. Adding a delicate statement necklace or draping different metal chains together (no, they don't have to match), can give your outfit an instant put-together pick-me-up without adding bulk. Now your tank and jeans or tee and shorts can go from errand day to cocktail evening in a cinch without breaking a sweat! Just don't forget to swap out those flip flops for Grecian sandals or pretty platforms.
*Christina Getachew, owner of Substance for Fashion Conscious People (Short North): It's the perfect time to update your whites. White tees, white tanks, white camis and white jeans all need to be refreshed each year. We wear them a lot, so it's worth the investment.
*Allison Jayjack, owner of Ladybird (Short North): I am definitely obsessed with adding doses of bright colors this summer, and my favorite is poppy (bright red/orange). So I'd say add a pop of poppy. Whether it's with denim, twill shorts, a shift dress or silk top, this dash of color will add an instant update.
*Jill Richey, owner of le Flair boutique (Dublin): Wear a white bottom. Wearing white is where it's at!
*Maren Roth, owner of Rowe (Short North): I do a ton of traveling in the summer, and the one thing I have found that I continuously pack is my black cotton maxi skirt. I can wear it from day to night, paired with flats and a casual tank for day or a great top and killer heels for evening. Airplanes are always freezing, so not only is it super comfy to wear on the airplane, but it also covers my legs so it almost doubles as a blanket. Also, I always have at least three light cotton scarves I love. I use them as a wrap when I am cold, a fashion accessory when I need a little punch of color, and as of late, I have been experimenting wearing them as a turban or head scarf.
