Learn about Arthlene Legair, the fashion designer behind LeGair Brand Ltd.
Columbus fashion designer Arthlene Legair, 47, has been garnering attention since she appeared in the New York Couture Fashion Week in September. Since January 2009, Legair has been designing a wide range of pieces from couture gowns to casual outfits to accessories under her line, LeGair Brand Ltd. After showing in New York, Legair participated in a show with "Real Housewives of Atlanta" star Dwight Eubanks in Georgia earlier this month. As her line continues to grow, we learned from Legair how she began designing clothes and what the future has in store. –Heather Weekley, @heather_weekley
How did you get into designing?
I knew how to sew since I was a little girl and I would sew on and off over the years. I moved from Miami, Fla. to Ohio in 1997 and stopped sewing until 2008 when my daughter needed a dress for a father daughter dance. I remember taking her to many different stores and we couldn't find an appropriate dress for her, everything I saw was either too short and tight or revealing. She was only 14 and the dresses made her look like she was 25.
Where do you hope LeGair Brand will be in the future?
LeGair Brand's future is very bright. I see my collection in major department stores, boutiques and international markets. I am from the Caribbean and plan to sell my designs there too. I also have connections in London and I am hoping to see my collections in that market also.
Where can people buy your collections?
