What's popular in home décor this season

For décor inspiration, Lombard's Fine Furniture is hosting a VIP party Wednesday, May 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. Guests can mix and mingle, enjoy dessert and wine pairings from The Refectory, and shop for furniture. The event is from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free, but an RSVP is requested by calling 614-459-2989.

We chatted with Vice President Trent Heer about what you'll find at the party and what's popular in home décor this season.

What's taking place at the VIP Party on Wednesday?

It's a new VIP party series we are trying to do once a quarter. We bring in a primary speaker to discuss furniture. This week is the Stickley Historian Mike Daniel. There are a lot of different kinds of Stickley antiques out there. It's a family owned company and they are really into the proper furniture construction. He will give a history of the family and the company. We will also have two other vendors here, including Fabricut, one of the largest fabric manufacturers in the world. They are located out of Tulsa. They will show off latest fabric trends, and we will also have our Hancock & Moore representative here. That's one of the high-end lines we work with. We also have lots of door prizes, and that should make it fun.

What's trending in furniture and home décor right now?

Mixing traditional and transitional styles together is kind of a hot thing. That's something that is encouraging for us because Lombard's in the past has been heavily traditional. To have traditional still be in the mix is positive.

What's one piece that you suggest people invest in this summer?

It always depends on the room. It's always directed by what is happening on the room, and we work around the key pieces the customer wants to retain. I would say the thing I would invest is in that piece where you spend most of your time sitting. There are some significant differences in upholstery, like style and comfort. It's a little different for everyone. Be comfortable in your home. With a lot of the imports, a sofa frame can be made out of cardboard. I don't think that's worth living with. Buy a nice sofa or buy a nice chair so that you are comfortable.
