Dining out? Get your local foods fix
It's Crave Farm to Plate week, and there are plenty of chances to get your local foods fix-and in many cases, for a steal. This 10-day dining celebration runs through Aug. 18 and features more than 30 great restaurants that have teamed up with Central Ohio farmers and producers to create special, locally-sourced menu items. A few great items I've sampled so far? Fried green tomatoes with Lucky Penny Farms feta at Barcelona (part of their tapas tasting menu offered only this week), a scoop of Jeni's Vanilla Ice Cream made even more amazing with Watershed Bourbon Caramel Sauce at Latitude 41, and a dish perfect for a hot day like today, the Refectory's Tomato Gazpacho with a floating garden and shrimp shavings. And my week's just getting started!

And as if dining out on these special dishes isn't enough of a lure-you can also win prizes (and maybe a free meal) by interacting via social media with Crave magazine. Just use the hashtag #cravecbus when Instagraming pictures of what you are enjoying at a participating restaurant, and you could win a restaurant gift card or even get your food pic in the upcoming issue of Crave. Oh, and tag the restaurant and you'll enter them for a chance to be featured in the magazine, too. Winners will be notified by tagging and reposting your picture, so be sure to follow Crave at @ColumbusCrave. (If you want to follow my food adventures this week, follow me at @CraveEditor.) Happy eating!
