I can't believe it's been a year since my first blog post with Capital Style! I remember last year's blog post about how to update your wardrobe for Spring 2013, and it's so fun to see how the trends have changed. All right, here are some simple things you can do to look chic this spring.

1. Embrace the ugly sandal. Some of you might cringe at this trend, but I'm all on board. There's something so cool about a sandal like this. It's sort of clunky, but it looks nice paired with a wide range of outfits. Throw them on with a girly dress for an unexpected twist. They're really comfortable, too, which is a plus in my book.(Zara sandals, similar)

2. Embrace the sweatshirt. This has been one of my favorite trends for quite some time, and it's still going to be big this season. Try one with a graphic detail, like the stripes on this Zara sweatshirt.

3. Learn how to yield a pair of scissors.I took this thrifted pair of high-waisted jeans ($2), measured where I wanted the hems to hit and simply cut. The raw edge of the denim gives it an unfinished look that's utterly cool. And you don't have to spend the money to get your jeans hemmed. Look at you, you fashion designer, you!

4. Stop there. We were asked to come up with five updates for spring, but I'm stopping at three because this spring is all about minimalism! Let these strong silhouettes speak for themselves.
