Meet the woman behind the brushes, Jade Piatt, esthetician and makeup artist at the Short North's MAX the Salon
In the beauty industry, many pros choose a salon moniker to stay clearly distinguished. But at the Short North's MAX the Salon, you'll find the real Jade Piatt. "Jade," says the 29-year-old esthetician and makeup artist, "is my real name." Meet the woman behind the brushes.
Best drugstore find: Maybelline Great Lash mascara or L'Oreal Voluminous mascara. I also like the e.l.f. line-they have super cheap brushes that are $1 to $3 a piece.
Beauty splurge I am a huge MAC fan. I also like Smashbox and Make Up For Ever-their HD Foundation is awesome.
My five-minute makeup routine: I'll start with concealer. I use blush on my cheeks and across my eyelids to give them an awake look. And of course, my mascara.
My go-to hairstyle: I like to get my hair as big as I can. I need two products: Strand Expand by Bamboo Volume and Dust It. It takes me 10 minutes. And I've been a lot of colors, but I always go back to blonde.
What I love about my job: I enjoy interacting with my guests. It's been cool to work with someone and then do their makeup for a wedding or something like that. It's a positive way to be involved with their life. I like that I get to do a variety of things as well. I do facials, waxing, makeup and nails. And I get the opportunity to do fun stuff. This was my third year being the makeup team leader for Columbus' fashion week.
Perfect night out in Columbus: I love to see live music, and I like to go to the Newport. I'd start with an awesome dinner at Basi, then go see a show. And then have some Jeni's ice cream afterward.
My style icon: I love Marilyn Monroe, Gwen Stefani and that whole "Mad Men"-era style. I also love a bit of the grunge look too.
Fav way to spoil myself: Whenever I travel, I like to go shopping. I like to have pieces that are different and not from around here. And makeup. I am forever buying makeup.
