On the red carpet at the Golden Globes Sunday, young new stylistas like Lupita Nyong’o of “12 Years a Slave” got it right — and veterans like Julia Roberts got it oh so wrong.
Here were the highlights and lowlights:
This is why “12 Years a Slave” co-star Lupita Nyong’o is one of Vogue’s “10 Rising Stars of Style for 2014.” She turned heads in a body-hugging column of yummy by Ralph Lauren with a cape. Purr-fection.
DO THE ‘HUSTLE’
When “American Hustle” winner Amy Adams shed the dramatic cape of her Valentino halter gown, she showed off the “globes” that made people joke that she should have been nominated for “best supported actress.”
GRACE KELLY REDUX
“Wolf of Wall Street” star Margot Robbie channeled cool, classy blondes of yesteryear in a Gucci gown cut down to there and Van Cleef jewels.
SORRY TO TRASH HER
Dior makes us swoon. But the gown on supporting actress winner Jennifer Lawrence looked like a trash bag held together with black twist ties. But we loved her sweet face, the hair and those gorgeous emerald drop earrings.
Julia Roberts forgot that she was ever in a movie named “Pretty Woman” when she chose a half-gown, half-maid’s uniform by Dolce & Gabbana.
A SOUR NOTE
A yellow confection by Zac Posen squeezed “Girls” star and creator Lena Dunham in all the wrong places. And she knew it. “None of this is quite right on me,” she said.
KC BABY BUMP
Olivia Wilde — engaged to Jason Sudeikis — finally showed off her baby bump in a skin-tight Gucci gown. “I’ve never had boobs before,” she quipped. She spilled the beans that the baby is due May 4.
THE RIGHT SPIN
The right way to dress a baby bump on the red carpet: Mommy-to-be “Scandal” star Kerry Washington wore a sleek Balenciaga in Olivia Pope’s signature white.
Drew Barrymore said that designer Monique Lhuillier made “a pregnant lady feel really good.” But unfortunately she looked like a box of heart-shaped Valentine candy.
