On Bourn and Bauer
Cleveland Indians outfielder Michael Bourn will play center and lead off for the Clippers tonight as the weather finally allows him to continue his rehab assignment for a left hamstring strain.
Columbus manager Chris Tremie said that Bourn would play seven innings against the Louisville Bats. Bourn said that he has a scheduled off day on Wednesday and that he will not travel to Louisville with the Clippers on Thursday. Double-A Akron is home so he can pick up the rehab there.
The Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres were rained out Monday. They are playing an old-fashioned doubleheader against the San Diego Padres on Wednesday, beginning at 12:05 p.m. withe second game to follow about 20 minutes after the conclusion of the first.
The Tribe will reach down to Columbus to add a starting pitcher for the doubleheader as a 26th man.The Indianswill calll up the Clippers Trevor Bauerto start the second game. He started Friday for Columbus after the opening day rainout and is on full rest.
There was a broad hint that Bauer was the choice when hedid not participate in the pregame pitchers fielding practice or shag during batting practice.
T.J. House is starting forthe series finale againstBats at 11:35 a.m. on Wednesday against Jeff Francis. The Clippers travel to Louisville after the game to begin a four-game series. Bauer was supposed to start the opener. The Clippers can go to Josh Tomlin to take his spot. Again because of rainouts, he will be on full rest.
Double-A Akron pitcher Toru Murata will join the Clippers for the Wednesday game.
