Jazz is the Cure for Wednesday Night Blues
Need last-minute plans for tonight? Head to Brothers Drake Meadery (26 E. Fifth Ave., Short North) for the latest installment of Jazz Wednesdays.
The Short North bar brings in local jazz acts for the weekly series; tonight’s show features the debut of new Columbus band The Dubfunk Quartet, led by Walter K of Mojoflo on sax. “This is kind of his side project,” Brothers Drake owner Eric Allen says. “A lot of the musicians that play at Brothers Drake have a jazz background, but [jazz] doesn’t always get the attention it really deserves.”
The all-ages show starts at 8 p.m., and there’s no cover charge. Grab a table with some friends or take advantage of the standing room in front of the corner stage. They keep the volume in check, Allen says, so concertgoers can still hear each other over the music and enjoy a relaxed environment. It’s the perfect way to spend a rainy evening and get your dose of midweek live music.
And if that’s not enough of a reason to come out, Brothers Drake is also offering $2 off all Apple Pie mead and cocktails until they run out of last year’s batch of the popular seasonal mead, which Allen says will probably happen by the end of the month.
