Nicholas Dekker shares his beer of the month.
The winter warmer (often called the Christmas ale) is that malty and spicy brew making its appearance around the holidays, with every brewery offering its take on the boozy holiday flavor profile. Smokehouse has been brewing its winter warmer, named for that jolly old elf, for decades. And it puts the "warm" in warmer. The brew regularly approaches 12 percent ABV, offering a sweet and sometimes biting sipper marked by flavors of cinnamon, nutmeg, clove and ginger. -Nicholas Dekker
