Shrink your electric bill with an energy audit
“We are like detectives,” Thomas Greene says. “We hunt air and heat loss.”
Thomas and his father, Rick, run Greene Solutions, an energy auditing company. They identify areas of air penetration and any less-than-efficient applicants. A standard audit costs $350 and includes a dozen CFL light bulbs (provided by AEP Ohio), low-flow showerheads, plus pipe wrap for your hot-water pipes. The idea is that it will pay for itself.
The Greenes remind customers that if they buy a new Energy Star refrigerator, AEP will give them a $50 rebate, plus $50 for recylcling the old fridge. “Between nine and 16 months, it’ll pay you back.”
