I've been researching the city's signature dishes, and so sliders have been on the mind. The miniaturized burgers served on little square buns with onions and a pickle were popularized thanks to Columbus' own White Castle, and they've since permeated every level of the dining scene.

Recently, I keep finding myself tempted by mini burgers and sandwiches at restaurants around town--and the ones I've been indulging in are a far cry from White Castle's burgers.

It started with the Pork Belly Sliders at Sage, part of their newish lunch menu. Big hunks of crispy pork belly are served on cute little brioche buns, accompanied by a good white cabbage-carraway slaw and chef Bill Glover's signature blackberry ketchup.

Eleven has lots of various sliders on its menu, including Angus Sliders with Tilamook cheddar and Pulled Pork Sliders with barbecue sauce. I quite enjoyed these Filet Mignon Sliders with a side of sweet potato tots.

And then there are these adorable little Crisp Chicken Sandwiches from the Little Palace Favorites menu. Oh, how I love them. For $3, you get some tasty fried chicken breast with melted swiss, mayo and a pickle. They're like an fancy version of the Chick-Fil-A sandwich, and they're perfect for when you need a snack but not a full meal.
