I had crepes for lunch yesterday! If you had a chance to try the fantastic Foodie Cart Japanese crepes that were all the rage last summer, then you'll understand why I'm positively giddy about it.
Kenny Kim and Misako Ohbo developed a cultlike following for their street cart crepes, but the cart they used was damaged in a car accident late last year.
This summer they've been serving various varieties of Japanese street food out of the Late Night Slice hut during the day. And while I quite enjoyed the new stuff coming out of the Fresh Street Takoyaki House (namely takoyaki, or octopus balls, and savory okonomiyaki pancakes), I was also not shy about begging them to bring back their crepes. I crave them on a regular basis.
I'm sure I wasn't the only one begging, and so I'm not the only one rejoicing this week about the addition of a new electric crepe griddle to the Fresh Street space.
From the thin, delicate pancake-like crepe exterior to the inventive Asian filling combinations, these crepes are something special. And I was so stoked about their return, I ordered two yesterday.
My first pick was the Bulgogi Cheesesteak, a favorite from last year. It's got Korean barbecue beef, hot sauce, sauteed veggies and mozzarella. Amaaazing.
I got the White Peach and Strawberry crepe for dessert. Chunks of super fresh peaches and strawberries were paired with lots of hand-whipped Snowville cream and a thin layer of bitter chocolate sauce. It was a sweet, light, delicious little treat.
