Heirloom, the latest incarnation of the Wexner Center cafe, opened for breakfast and lunch yesterday. I stopped by to check out the wholesome, local-leaning menu for lunch today. The small collection of salads and sandwiches is expected to change up pretty frequently, and breakfast is served all day--a nice touch.

The initial menu is small but definitely intriguing. Beyond breakfast and lunch stuff, there's also coffee from Stauf's and lots of baked goods.
I was planning on getting a salad, but then I saw the Peanut Butter, Banana & Honey sandwich on the menu. So I ordered that. It's served on really great baked-in-house bread--dense and crusty and perfectly toasted. The peanut butter's nice and crunchy, and the bananas are fresh and sliced thick. Overall very good.
Also couldn't pass up the Butternut Squash Guacamole, a fall-feeling snack served with crunchy pita chips. There's no avocado in this guac, but instead squash is blended with onions, garlic, olive oil and spices. I looooove butternut squash, and really liked this treatment.
Heirloom is open from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday. Here's a look at the rest of the menu:
