What attracted you to this position?

I grew up in Grandview and used to come here when it was in the Quonset hut. When I moved back to Columbus, I bought stuff for the Cheesy Truck here, I ate lunch here. To be a part of this, that's the most exciting part for me.

What's the biggest challenge you face?

This is a not-for-profit organization. We need to get the community more involved. For us to the do the amazing things, to realize our great ideas and visions, we need funding. My job is to get out there and tell this story and raise the funds.

How do you plan to accomplish that?

I'm the Jack Hanna of North Market. I remember as a kid when Jack Hanna came here. Now, I've walked into something in tip-top condition, but he walked into a zoo that was a complete mess. And he changed the way people looked at that zoo both locally and internationally.

The zoo is one of the biggest tourist attractions in town, and the North Market is up there, too. Jack Hanna went out into the community and the world, and told the story of that zoo. That's really what I'm going to do.

What's on the immediate agenda?

We are redoing the entire HVAC ventilation system, and it'll be completed in October. It's not super-sexy, but this is a big thing to improve the customer experience here. It'll be state-of-the-art, brand-new. It will be good for our merchants and good for our guests.
