13. Taste the Future

Last winter, while looking through pictures from the first Taste the Future event in 1989, Pam Bishop and her staff noticed something. "There were several restaurants not only still in business, but thriving," says the executive director of the Columbus State Community College Foundation. There were also a few chefs who didn't have their own spots yet, but during the next 25 years, they would eventually leave their mark on the local dining scene. This year's fundraiser will honor six culinary trailblazers who were present at the first Taste the Future: Kamal Boulos of the Refectory Restaurant and Bistro, Sue Doody of Lindey's, Cameron Mitchell of Cameron Mitchell Restaurants, Paul Panzera of Paul's Fifth Avenue Restaurant & Catering, Kent Rigsby of Rigsby's Kitchen and Hubert Seifert of Spagio. Held on the Columbus State campus, the event will feature samplings from more than 50 area eateries, including the restaurants of this year's honorees. Proceeds from the fundraiser support student scholarships and special projects at Columbus State. tastethefuture.com
