Crave contributor and Breakfast with Nick blogger Nicholas Dekker shares his favorite spots to grab brunch.

If you know anything about me, you know that my personal mission is preaching the good word about breakfast and brunch in Columbus. We're fortunate to have so many options for the morning meal, from upscale and fancy to down low and greasy. Here's where I've been eating lately.

Many people equate brunch with a heavier meal, but xe "Cambridge Tea House"Cambridge Tea House in Grandview bucks the trend. Start the meal with their house-made scones and clotted cream (the closest I've found stateside to authentic English cream), then continue with a picturesque plate of quiche or an egg sandwich. And of course don't forget a pot of loose-leaf tea to complement your meal. Many people equate brunch with a heavier meal, but Cambridge Tea House in Grandview bucks the trend. One of our more memorable brunches recently was at xe "The Pearl"The Pearl, Cameron Mitchell's take on the gastropub. The brunch menu features some more unique items, like devils on horseback (bacon-wrapped dates) or rollmops (pickled herring in cream). The poutine includes fries and cheese curds soaked in a savory short rib gravy that sets me drooling. Add a trendy bloody mary in a mason jar and a plate of oysters, and you're set for the day. I'm always looking for an excuse to go to xe "Katalina's Cafe Corner"Katalina's Cafe Corner. Their patio is perfect for weekend brunching. In my mind, an order of Nutella pancake balls with sweet and spicy bacon counts as an appetizer for the table. Then I move on to a Big Ol' Burrito with chorizo or the Hens in a Basket, a family-favorite of dense sourdough with the center cut out and eggs fried in the hole. A fantastic alternative to the traditional American brunch is dim sum at xe "Sunflower Chinese Restaurant & Lounge"Sunflower Chinese Restaurant & Lounge in Dublin. Go on the weekends for the full dim sum experience, in which servers roll carts up tableside so you can choose small plates to share with the table. Pick a basket or two of steamed dumplings. Try the almond chicken in a nest of fried noodles. And definitely order the quail's egg wrapped with rice and vegetables in a lotus leaf. Morning Regulars

I've never been one to pass up any of Columbus' greasy spoons. xe "Jack & Benny"Jack & Benny's near OSU's campus is so distinctly diner-ish. My downfall is their Gutbuster, an everything's-included stack of eggs, potatoes, meat, cheese and gravy. If I'm free on weekday mornings, I go for steak and eggs at xe "Jack's Sandwich Shop"Jack's Sandwich Shop Downtown. They grill the steak while leaving it juicy enough to mix with potatoes and runny egg yolks. And I'm a regular at Westerville's xe "The Best Breakfast & Sandwiches"The Best Breakfast & Sandwiches, where I love the crispy and tender country fried steak or the chunky sausage gravy and biscuits.
