Share fair memories
Have you ever participated in the Arts and Crafts contests at the Ohio State Fair? Perhaps you were a contestant, ribbon-winner, volunteer or judge?
A group of fair volunteers want to know about it, as part of an ongoing campaign to preserve the legacy of Arts and Crafts at the fair.
The effort began a few years ago by longtime fair volunteer Diane Cordial, who is committed to recording the history of Arts and Crafts. For many years Cordial was a contestant at the fair, and later turned to judging culinary contests.
Cordial and volunteer Patty Parker are asking those who have been involved to share their stories and memories of Arts and Crafts. Family members also may contribute stories for their deceased relatives, Cordial said.
Submissions should include the submitter’s name (the participant’s name if submitting for a deceased person), years of participation, areas of entry (cooking, sewing, quilts, crafts, etc.) and a narrative of fair memories which notes any awards won.
Send the information to email@example.com or firstname.lastname@example.org.

Better burger contest
Chefs from two Columbus restaurants are attempting to create burgers that could win them the chance to cook at the James Beard House in New York.
The Beard House is sponsoring the contest to challenge chefs to use mushrooms with meat to create healthier, more sustainable burgers.
From Stack City Burger Bar, 600 N. High St., chef Pritchard Farrar is featuring an Earth Burger, made of Ohio grass-fed beef blended with mushrooms and topped with red onion, Swiss cheese and truffle mayonnaise.
At Black Point Prime Steakhouse, 570 N. High St., chef Tyler Howell has created a Blended Mushroom Cowboy Burger, made of Ohio bison combined with shiitake, cremini and oyster mushrooms and topped with bacon, cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce.
To vote between now and July 31, visit jamesbeard.org/blendedburgerproject; the burgers will be on the menus of the restaurants until that time.
The five chefs with the most votes will win a trip to the Beard House in New York to make their burgers at a 2018 event. Those who cast a vote also will be entered for a trip for two to New York to attend the event.
