Each week, we feature a couple from our latest issue.
Like many couples, Paige and Alexander Toussant first met at work … but things take a twist after that.
“We didn’t go out on a first date until three days before he left to go into the Peace Corps for two years,” explains Paige. “So we dated long-distance, used Gchat and Skype constantly, visited occasionally and traveled to some great places—Thailand, Spain, Morocco—while he was away.”
Alexander’s proposal was less than conventional, as well.
“I had been hoping for a proposal for a while, and so every time he asked me to go on a walk or do something out of the ordinary, I’d run upstairs and quickly try to look glamorous,” Paige says. “Instead of a proposal, we took a lot of uneventful walks.” After several months of faking herself out, Paige inadvertently thwarted Alexander’s actual proposal plans.
Paige’s parents were visiting, and Alexander wanted to pop the question just before they arrived, so Paige could share her joy with them. Instead, Paige opted to go shopping with a friend.
“He proposed the next day, after we watched our favorite TV show, ate our favorite dinner and he went into the kitchen to get dessert,” Paige says. “It was magical and amazing, and I was completely surprised.”
