Celebrating the couples from our most recent issue on their anniversaries

This weekend last year was insanely busy for wedding vendors and five Columbus Weddings couples. Please join us in congratulating these no-longer-newlyweds, who all celebrated their first anniversaries on Saturday and Sunday.

First up are Anita Silva Coil and Jarrod Coil, who said “we do” at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Downtown Columbus on Aug. 26, had their reception at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral in the Short North. Family played an integral role in their big day, with Anita’s grandmother and brother walking her down the aisle in honor of her late father. Many of Anita’s family members from Brazil and the West Coast got to meet Jarrod’s family for the first time that day. You can read more about their wedding here.

Worthington Hills Country Club was the setting for Jenna and Alex Liao’s Aug. 27 wedding and reception. Despite a last-minute change of plans due to a summer storm, Jenna found beauty in the day: “As we began the ceremony, the rain started to slow,” she remembers. “As we said our vows, the sun came out.” If that’s not a fortuitous sign, we don’t know what is! The Liaos participated in our Our Favorite Photo series, here.

Alexandra and Colin Niemczura’s wedding on the same day had the same complication and last-minute change to an indoor setting at dock580. “At first, we were pretty bummed—but the fact that things didn’t’ go the way we envisioned actually turned out to be a good thing,” Alexandra says. “We hadn’t rehearsed the ceremony [indoors], so we just had to wing it, which made it so much more natural. … Not to mention, the exposed brick backdrop was absolutely stunning, and the industrial-style setting was very chic. Not sure why we didn’t plan an indoor ceremony all along!” The wedding—which Alexandra says carried a theme of “urban, modern and awesome,” saw the high school sweethearts exchange personalized vows as their fathers co-officiated.

Elsewhere that day, Janelle and Daniel Deane enjoyed the comfort of Plan A as they wed in a traditional Catholic ceremony before heading to Via Vecchia for a Great Gatsby-themed party. The day featured a number of custom touches, from Daniel’s jacket to the first dance: a specially arranged piano version of Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable.” You can see more from the Deane’s wedding here.

The last wedding anniversary from this weekend is our own Julie and Manjul Bhusal Sharma—Julie is a regular Columbus Weddings freelance writer, and her experience in all things weddings certainly showed in the couple’s gorgeous Franklin Park Conservatory reception. (Julie and Manjul were wed at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in German Village, where Julie’s great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother were married before her.) The tropical inspired event included several nods to Manjul’s Nepalese heritage, too. Julie wrote about the experience of planning an interfaith wedding here.
