Each week, we feature a couple from our latest issue.
When he married Robyn Stype, Anthony Aleshire took her last name. While that’s pretty awesome, this the Stypes have a lot more that make them one of the coolest couples in our winter/spring issue. Let’s start with the story of how they met … in elementary school.
“On the first day of fourth grade, Anthony was the new kid in school,” Robyn remembers. “When the teacher asked him to take the attendance form to the office, he told her he would need help finding it.” Robyn volunteered to help him find it, and she “talked his ear off on the way,” she says. They formed a fast friendship, then a mutual secret crush that wasn’t revealed until they were in the eighth grade.
They dated for 13 years, which proved to be anything but unlucky for them. To propose, Anthony took Robyn to the movie theater where they first held hands as teenagers. Unbeknownst to Robyn, their family and friends were waiting in the auditorium to watch the proposal. After she gave her enthusiastic “yes,” everyone sat down to watch “Pride and Prejudice and Zombies,” which Robyn called a “perfect movie for a romantic couple with a good sense of humor.”
Just 11 months later, the pair processed to the center aisle of their wedding ceremony from either side of the sanctuary, both accompanied by their parents. They met in the middle, then walked down the aisle together. (Can you say gender equality?)
Other fun and personal touches at the wedding included choreographed first and father/daughter dances, thanks to lessons at Dance Plus Ballroom; centerpieces featuring candelabras and white roses under bell jars in an homage to “Beauty and the Beast,” one of the Stypes’ favorite films; and a “midnight cake” for just the two of them to enjoy at their hotel, featuring pineapple and vanilla flavors in a nod to their favorite dessert from the Disney parks: Dole Whip.
