Real newlyweds give wedding planning tips based on their experience.
Morgan and Peter Martin’s wedding took place on June 26, 2016, at The Loft at Pickwick Place.
What are you happy you spent money on?
I am so thankful I splurged on a photographer and videographer. Remembering that day is so special, and with talented people, you will get those snapshots to look back on.
What do you think you could have done without in your wedding?
I could have done without so many flowers. I thought I needed SO many flowers and greenery and when I got it there, we had way too much. Sometimes less is more.
What was your biggest surprise when planning your wedding?
My biggest surprise was the cost of weddings in general. I wish I would have known that Pinterest weddings are not realistic and you don't have to have a Pinterest-perfect wedding to have a beautiful day.
Did you experience any wedding-day snafus, and how did you handle them?
I did. Thankfully, I had a wedding planner and a lot of people to calm me down and help fix the problems.
Any dress shopping advice?
Take all your girlfriends and make a day of it. There was nothing I loved more than having my mom, mother-in-law, grandmas and bridesmaids there when I said “yes” to the dress.
Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?
Have fun with it and make memories together during this time. There is nothing worse than looking back on your engagement and wishing you would not have been so stressed or being disappointed you rushed the time away.
Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?
Keep God at the center of your marriage and find a strong church and mentor couple that can help disciple you through your first few months of marriage.
