Real newlyweds give wedding planning tips based on their experience.
Emily Cutright Kopco married Jeff Kopco on Sept. 2, 2017, at The Kitchen in German Village.
If you could do anything about your wedding differently, what would you change and why?
I would have hired a DJ or a band to have at the wedding for live entertainment.
What are you happy you spent money on?
Wedding planners and high-quality photographer.
What do you think you could have done without?
Room blocks at hotel. We booked too many.
Did you experience any wedding-day snafus?
The weather. We planned an outdoor backyard wedding, but due to weather we had to book a venue three days before the actual day.We embraced it and had fun. We rolled with the punches and it turned out to be great. (You can read more about this near-fiasco here and here.)
Did you and your fiancé get into any silly arguments?
We didn’t argue during planning. We actually went out for multiple date nights and planned. It was something fun for us to do together.
Any dress shopping advice?
I only took my mom dress shopping. That way I wasn’t getting too many opinions or having distractions. It turned into a mother/daughter day and was so memorable.
Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?
Have a plan B, but enjoy the process because it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don’t fret over the minor details, and most importantly, enjoy the company of your spouse.
Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?
To always continue date nights. Enjoy every moment together. Take new adventures together and plenty of photos.
