Real newlyweds give wedding planning tips based on their experience.

Jessie and Josh Anderson’s wedding took place on July 22, 2017, at Little Brook Meadows.

If you could do anything about your wedding differently, what would you change and why?

We would have hired a videographer, so we could capture the real laughter and sounds of our wedding day.

What are you happy you spent money on?

The venue and all the amenities that came included in it.

What do you think you could have done without?

The rain, haha!

What was your biggest surprise when planning your wedding?

The price of everything and what we got for the day.

Did you experience any wedding-day snafus?

Yes! It rained and [thunderstormed], causing the venue to shift the ceremony from outside to inside. Our DJ’s assistant was also hauled away in squad due to be shocked by lightning while plugging in equipment. It was quite an unforgettable day!

[Editor’s note: The assistant in question is doing just fine, so no need to worry.]

Did you and your fiancé get into any silly arguments?

Honestly, we really didn’t. We really agreed on everything. I mean, we planned a wedding for 300 guests in six months.

What are your tips for attire?

Don’t be afraid to fall in love with the first dress you try on. I did, and it worked out wonderfully! Grooms, make sure you look at suits as a group—it’s more fun that way.

Do you have any general advice for couples currently planning their weddings?

Don’t worry about the small details because at the end of the day, you won’t even recall paying any attention to details like table arrangements and whatnot. Just have fun!

Do you have any general marriage advice, as a newlywed?

Pick your battles and compromise, and always remember you married your best friend.
