Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams’ flagship store in the Short North will close temporarily for renovations starting Sunday, April 2. The shop will be closed for a few weeks. Never fear: Jeni’s Street Treats truck will be parked at the corner of High and Warren streets from 6 to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 4 to 11 p.m. Friday through Sunday. The redesigned shop will feature improvements to the sampling, ordering and paying processes and a chalkboard wall for the kids.
Also, Jeni’s German Village scoop shop opens for the season on Saturday, April 1 at 900 Mohawk St. Located next door to Brown Bag Deli, the walkup shop will be open daily from noon to 10 p.m.
In other ice cream news, Velvet Ice Cream is hosting its Ohio State Fair ice cream flavor contest again this year. Ice cream fans can submit their flavor ideas through April 12 on Velvet Ice Cream’s Facebook page. The company will choose a favorite and develop the new ice cream for the fair, which runs July 26-Aug. 6 at the Ohio Expo Center. Sorry, Banana Cream Pie lovers, that was last year’s winning flavor.
Dada Empanada, the Campus-area empanada specialist, opened a second location today at 1724 Northwest Blvd. in Grandview.
Hot Chicken Takeover is now open seven days a week open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at its North Market location.
Red Door BBQ holds its grand opening Saturday, April 1 at 177 S. Cypress Ave. The Franklinton spot will serve brisket, pulled pork, ribs and more from 11 a.m. until they run out.
