A new tenant will be moving into the former home of Rigsby’s Kitchen in the Short North—and it’s a familiar name. After a more than yearlong search, Wood Companies announced today that Cameron Mitchell Restaurants (CMR) will open a new concept at 698 N. High St. in the spring of 2018. CMR had already announced two new Short North concepts across the street—one on the ground floor and another on the rooftop—of the new 9-story development at 711 N. High St. Those restaurants are expected to open in the fall of 2018.

The city lost an iconic vegetarian restaurant on Sunday when Whole World Natural Restaurant closed its doors at 3269 N. High St. The popular Clintonville restaurant opened in 1978.

Tom Kincaid, the owner of House Beer, is opening a deli next door at 841 N. High St. Short North Deli is expected to open this month.

Tiger + Lily, an East-meets-West restaurant and bar, is expected to open by the end of May at 19 E. Gay St. Husband-and-wife team Thomas Chang and Kirsten Cheng are developing a contemporary menu that draws from China, Vietnam, Thailand and Japan.

Combustion Brewery & Taproom is now open at 80 W. Church St. in Pickerington.

Sushi King, serving a variety of sushi rolls and sashimi, is now open for lunch and dinner at 1413 Grandview Ave. in the spot formerly occupied by Jie’s Good Tasting. 

Loose Rail Brewing, the new Canal Winchester brewery and taproom from the owners of Harvest Moon Craft Kitchen, will hold its grand opening on May 5 from 5 p.m. to midnight. Loose Rail is located at 37 W. Waterloo St. near the heart of historic Downtown Canal Winchester. Read more about places to eat and drink in Canal Winchester here.

Eat This: Genmaicha & Marshmallows

Jeni Britton Bauer calls Columbus the “Champagne region of ice cream.” Indeed, we are fortunate to have a wealth of amazing ice creams at the tip of our spoons. This new flavor from Jeni’s spring collection “We’re Not from Here. You Belong Here.” is a welcome addition. Genmaicha is a lovely Japanese green tea made with toasted rice. Steeping it in cream brings out the nutty notes of the tea. The kicker is handmade vanilla bean marshmallows that provide a chewy contrast to the light green ice cream. Sophisticated, yes. But the taste also conjures a childhood favorite: the Rice Krispies treat. —Erin Edwards

The newly rebranded Kindred Beer is building a program of sours, saisons and farmhouse ales, and their Hawaiian Shirt witbier (also known as a white ale) serves as a worthy introduction to its portfolio. The wheat beer pours cloudy and is notable for its pink hue. It’s infused with mangos and hibiscus, and it balances the tropical fruit sweetness with a little spice from coriander and a tart finish.
