Harley Rouda Jr., son of HER Realtors founder, is stepping into the political sphere.
A familiar name in the Columbus-area realty scene is taking his initiatives into the political arena.
Harley Rouda Jr., son of the late Harley Rouda Sr., who founded HER Realtors, is a Democrat running for the U.S. Representative seat for the 48th congressional district in California. Prior to his political campaign, Rouda Jr. spent time working with his family’s company, including a period of time working as the CEO of Trident Holdings, Inc., the parent company of HER Realtors.
Rouda will face 15-year Republican incumbent Dana Rohrabacher in the general election. Rohrabacher and Rouda placed first and second in the top-two primary, the California primary system where all candidates from all parties run against one another in the primary election, and the first- and second-place finishers—regardless of party affiliation—continue on to the general election.
Hans Keirstead, Rouda’s Democratic opponent, conceded the second-place spot to Rouda in the June 5 primary. The two had been neck-and-neck in vote counts following the election. Rouda ended up securing the second-place finish by a 125-vote margin, according to the California secretary of state final results.
Rohrabacher’s Orange County Representative seat is considered to be one of the most vulnerable in the country, in part because the incumbent only received just over 30 percent of the primary votes. The 48th District was also one of the few Republican House districts won by Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
Rouda will face Rohrabacher in the general election on November 6.
