Despite the fact that it's now the second-closest restaurant to my office, I just recently made it out to Lexi's, Downtown's new lunch hotspot. Yes, a certified hotspot. The real reason it took me this long to lunch there is every time I walk by there's a line out the door.
And for good reason. The sandwiches I tasted were worth the wait.
I couldn't bring myself to order the house specialty, the Lexi's Tower, a $14 monstrosity of corned beef, pastrami, turkey, swiss, lettuce, tomato, mayo and spicy mustard on grilled rye. But I got the second-most massive sandwich, the Love Connection ($10.50), which comes with two meats (I picked corned beef and pastrami), swiss and coleslaw on rye.
You can see it up top, and honestly I can't imagine adding another layer of meat. It was fantastic. Great, flavorful deli meats, good-quality bread, and some added personality courtesy of the hefty pile of coleslaw.
Also tried some of the Yummy Gobbler ($7.50), with turkey, sun-dried tomato pesto, provolone, lettuce, tomato and red onion on a soft croissant. It was good, though it could've used a bit more pesto, or maybe some mayo, to combat the inherent dryness of turkey. As for sides, the Cajun fries were good, the fried mushrooms were just OK.
Lexi's is gorgeous inside. The industrial-chic space is part of the Chase bank building, and has high ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the intersection of Third and Broad, and neat hanging lanterns. There's also a great outdoor patio, perfect for an after-work beer or wine (happy hour runs from 4-8 p.m. Monday-Friday).
Overall, a nice addition to the Downtown lunch scene.
