Vivid color, patterns and flair bring new life to your spring style
Columbus fashion guest blogger Christina Getachew is founder and CEO of Short North boutiqueSubstance.
Spring is my favorite season because it signals a big shift in wardrobes to less of a focus on the practical function and more emphasis on vivid color, pattern and flair. I look forward to shedding my outerwear, wearing dresses without tights and eating breakfast on the patio in pajamas with my little girls.
Here are my personal favorite Spring 2014 trends:
1. Bold florals
This spring's floral patterns are large and dramatic on dresses and accessories like the blossom dress from Ark & Co., $68, and the violet and navy statement necklace, $28, both from Substance.
2. Quirky statement prints
No designer I know does prints better than the artists Alice and Moriah of Feral Childe. The Doppler dress from the line, $348, will be available mid-March at Substance.
3. Grand embellishment
The more embellishment, the better this spring, and there's a perfect contrast of metal on girly lace with this cotton tank from Ark and Co., $62, available at Substance.
4. Iridescent and metallic shine
Color and shine come together in this trend that goes from work to play. I love the shine of the cobalt in this jacquard metallic shift from Ya Los Angeles, $55, available at Substance.
5. Tea-length full skirts
They were all over the runways for Spring 2014, and at Substance the design team is hard at work on our next Design Lab Collection™. Look for our exclusive tea-length skirts called Skirt Proper, unveiling May 1 in Substance stores.
