Clintonville decor shop Mix: Home is closing

Clintonville decor shop Mix: Home is closing.

The upscale shop, which features an eclectic mix of chic furniture and stellar vintage finds with an industrial-luxe feel, has been open for three years.

"It's been like riding a roller coaster with your hair on fire," said owner Adam Gibson (who, by the way, is among the friendliest guys you'll find). "It's exhilarating... but there are definitely compromises that you have to make."

A lot of it comes down to time missed with his children, who are 9 and 6, Gibson said. For example, shopping trips to score their one-of-a-kind vintage pieces are time-consuming, he noted--and those are on top of regular market trips and the demands of running a store.

So instead of renewing his lease, Gibson and his wife, who works in retail corporately and also helps run the shop, are reevaluating. They are actively scouting other areas of the city and other shop ideas, he said.

Meanwhile, Mix: Home is set to close its doors by May 24. And until then, the entire shop is on sale. This week, everything is 30 percent off. Starting Saturday, April 26, everything is 40 percent off. And on May 3, everything will be half off.

And bargain hunters, take note: "We've got a lot of product, so we're willing to negotiate," Gibson said.

He will make himself available by appointment beyond shop hours to serious buyers who want to negotiate on several pieces.
