Ray Marsh on why he designs, his personal style and his CMH Fashion Week collection
CMH Fashion Week launches on Sunday, Oct. 12, with a High Fashion Tea and wraps up on Saturday, Oct. 18, with the 5th Annual Finale Runway Show. Ten local designers will send their looks down the runway, as will headliner Althea Harper. Here, meet designer Ray Marsh.
Credentials:I attended Kent State University's Fashion School, where I double majored in fashion design and merchandising. I won the award for best sportswear/casual line for my senior thesis collection. After graduating, I have continued designing, was featured in the 2013 CMH Fashion Week Finale Runway Show and have consulted as a wardrobe stylist for STYLE 2020.
My story:I am Cleveland born and raised. At a young age I developed a love for fashion through my grandma, who taught me how to sew and design. I pursued design throughout high school and college. Fashion has always been in my blood, and I am so excited to share my vision with the world.
Personal style:A mix of high end, vintage and basics with a rock and roll twist
Favorite designers:Vivienne Westwood, Balmain and Saint Laurent
Favorite three pieces in your closet right now:Helmut Lang tank top, any leather coat and a pair of distressed denim jeans
True style is…Truly showing yourself through what you're wearing.
This collection:Is killer. It's for any woman who is strong and confident.
One celebrity you'd like to see in your designs:Rita Ora
Are items shown in this collection for sale? They will be next spring. I like to keep things in the $38 to $268 range.
Do you do custom work?I do custom pieces that are priced per design.
