As a little girl, Melissa Roshan Perkins grew up in foster homes in Seattle. At 17, she moved out on her own. At 20, she left for New York City to pursue her dreams in modeling and makeup. Finally, three years ago, she arrived in Columbus for a modeling job and fell in love with the area.

Now 29, Perkins -- along with her husband and two children -- proudly calls Central Ohio home. She works as a model and makeup artist who specializes in beautifying brides. (You can check her handiwork at www.MelissaRoshan.com.) Her upbeat attitude -- she even serves as a motivational speaker -- is as perky and fun as her hair. "I feel so grateful," Perkins said, "to be able to do what I love."

Life Style

My greatest passion: It's really makeup. Of course, my family. But I'll be in the checkout stand at the grocery store, and I'm thinking, "I'd love to put some coral lipstick on her!"

I most admire: I don't want to say this, but myself. That's bad, right? But just the fact I've been able to persevere through so many setbacks.

My ideal day: Waking up early in the morning and doing some tai chi. Having just a really nice, healthy breakfast. Heading off to meet clients. And then capping the day off by going to GameWorks with my family.

For my last supper, I would choose: Anything Indian

When I want to truly treat myself, I: Go to Barnes & Noble and shut off my cell phone and read fashion magazines and books. I can do that for hours.

The last thing that made me laugh is: Seeing my son singing a Lady Gaga song with such conviction. It was hilarious.

I feel fulfilled when I am: Working with my clients and being in front of the
camera or behind the camera. Also, when I wake up and my kids are happy-they're smiling, they're healthy. There's nothing like it.

Three things I hope people say I am: Sincere. Gregarious. And a dope makeup artist.
