Brenda Risacher found success as a senior medical consultant with Proctor & Gamble-but passion in hat making. So when the 57-year-old Westerville woman recently retired, she turned her longtime hobby into a business called HatArtists. "I am so passionate about it that it gets me out of bed at night because I have to go work on a hat," she said. "That's the kind of passion I wanted at this point in my life." Risacher uses only the finest materials-silk from Australia, feathers from England-to hand make stunning, unique, copyrighted headpieces, from headbands to Kate Middleton-style hats. Prices generally range from $150 to $450. Risacher delights in making custom pieces to match dresses for events like the Franklin Park Conservatory's May 6 Hat Day or springtime weddings. "I want each," she said, "to be a piece of art."

Upper Arlington boutique Over My Head will host a trunk show of Risacher's hats March 25-26. To schedule a private consultation with Risacher, contact her at 614-537-4042 or
