Goldstein dished on her career as a stylist and her fashion must-haves
She's worked with the likes of Annie Leibovitz, Donatella Versace and Madonna, making a name for herself as a fashion stylist in New York. But that's not all: Lori Goldstein, who was born in Columbus, is a fashion editor-at-large at Elle, designs her own line of clothing called LOGO for QVC and recently released a collection of her work in a book called Lori Goldstein: Style is Instinct. "Creativity for me is the key to life," she says. "It gives you so much joy." Goldstein dished on her career as a stylist and her fashion must-haves.
How has your career evolved over the years?
It's evolved by the quality of work and the quality of the people that I got to work with. I've been very blessed from the beginning to have met Annie Leibovitz early on in my career and work with her.
What is your favorite shoot you've styled?
There was a period when I worked with Steven Meisel. I was working with Donatella Versace, and it was this campaign we did about excess and boredom of the rich and this nonchalant, casual, rich woman. We also did a shoot for Italian Vogue that coincided with that, and it was this great moment of fashion and art coming together. I was working with the best people who were my friends, and it was really great.
Who is your favorite designer?
I have a lot. I love mixing different designers. I'm very much into not loving one designer. I must say that Marni, the Italian designer, does incredible clothes, because they're perfect for me when I have to dress up, but can still be myself. I love the quality of fabrics and the mixing of different things. I love Rick Owens. I love Dries Van Noten this season.
What three pieces should every woman have in her wardrobe?
I think we need to have an incredible pair of pants and a great skirt. Bottoms are very hard for all of us, and when we find that one we just stick with it, and we should. I think a great pair of shoes or boots. You'd think I'd say a great white shirt or something, but that's not me. Then you should just have those tops that you feel comfortable in. Comfort is everything. When we feel great in our clothes, we can conquer the world. It's so much more than just feeling pretty or showing off. It's who we are.
How can women accessorize for the holidays?
A great statement necklace is huge. Clothing that has a little bit of embellishment or detail is so great, and it's a no-brainer. You can put that on and you're done. That's why all those little details matter. A great printed scarf is immediately chic and holiday. It's really that embellishment. It doesn't have to be a big deal. It's that thing that you love that carries you through.
What's your go-to outfit?
Black leggings are always my go-to bottom. And I live in my Rick Owens tank. This is like my uniform underneath, and then I can add everything else. And I love my jewels that can just stay on. My arm of jewels is my go-to jewelry.
You design a collection for QVC called LOGO. What's it like?
LOGO really is about style and mixing color, mixing prints and mixing textures. It's totally wearable, totally affordable and totally comfortable. I'm obsessed with comfortable fashion. It was really that combination that became LOGO. It fits all body types and it works with whatever style you have. It can be as simple or as wild as you want it to be. It's everything that I've learned and I love in clothes that I'm bringing to LOGO.
