Her story

Karen describes herself as a T-shirt girl who prefers to be in hiking books or flip-flops. But she has good reason to up the ante with her wardrobe: She's lost roughly 90 pounds-and 100 points from her cholesterol-since 2009. At 235 pounds, Karen set out to lose weight by training at Title Boxing and with Theo Sakellaris of T&J No Limit Fitness. She also keeps her muscles in shape with the help of Craig Stolz and his muscle activation therapy. "I did one-on-one training and corrected my diet," Karen says. "I feel good and have more energy." Since she's used to wearing jeans, Karen enjoyed learning how to dress for her new size and felt honored to receive a makeover. "You watch the makeover shows and think how cool it is, but you don't think you would get this opportunity," Karen says. "It makes me proud I took the journey back to fitness and a really good body shape."

Hair at J.Bentley

Premier Artist and ColorProof Educator Brit Beswick richened and deepened Karen's hair color. "We're trimming the hair a bit for a fun, flirty cut with some texture," Beswick says.

Glasses from Arlington Optical

The colors in a pair of Tom Davies TD253 frames ($525) blend well with Karen's skin tone and complement her dress. "The frame shape contours nicely around the upper brow and still leaves the eye exposed," says licensed optician Tim McNemar.

Facial at Skin Perfect

Clinical esthetician Susana Benson gave Karen a rejuvenative treatment, which included dermaplane, an exfoliating wash, a mask and microcurrent.

Makeup at Skin Perfect

"We want to make her look younger by adding color," says Crystal Argo, cosmetic manager at Skin Perfect. Colored eye shadow, she says, gives Karen an instant eye lift.

Outfit from Saks Fifth Avenue

Karen wears an Elie Tahari dress ($268), Diane Von Furstenberg sweater ($268) and Stuart Weitzman shoes ($385). Accessories include earrings ($150), a necklace ($125) and a Fendi bag ($3,350). "The ruching at the waist of the dress accentuates all of Karen's hard work," says Tammy Hanley, a consultant for The Fifth Avenue Club. "It's a good look for her body type."
