DETROIT (AP) The daughter of Motown Records founder Berry Gordy and one of its biggest stars, Diana Ross, says young Detroiters should learn about their city's rich artistic legacy then find their own beat.

Rhonda Ross Kendrick told a group of musically inclined students Thursday she felt pressure to "replicate" her parents' success, but the singer says "I'm doing me" and encouraged them to follow suit.

The 44-year-old was participating for the third time in the Motown EDU Summer Camp, which aims to encourage budding artists and entrepreneurs in the town that launched the "Motown Sound." It's a program of the Motown Museum, which occupies the former space of Motown's original headquarters and studio where Ross and the Supremes, Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Stevie Wonder, Marvin Gaye and many others recorded global hits.
