You've probably heard of Igloo Letterpress-the Worthington letterpress and bookbinding business has made a name for itself in Columbus for the past six years. Now, Igloo has an exciting move on the horizon: Currently, the studio operates out of a small building on New England Avenue, with its retail shop (Snow House Gift Shop) in an 1817 home next door. But this fall Igloo Letterpress is moving to a bigger space just around the corner on High Street. "We're excited to have the production and the retail in the same space," says owner Allison Chapman. "To see someone run the presses while shopping is really engaging."
Igloo Letterpress offers a variety of classes-think bookbinding and posters-along with a booming wedding business. Igloo makes wedding invitations, save-the-dates and more, going through the process hand-in-hand with the bride and groom. "We obviously are creative, but we have the best brides," says Beth Dekker, studio director. "They'll come in and say, 'We want to try this but don't know if it will work…' Our favorite thing to do is say yes and see the creativity to the end."
Dekker described the three options couples have when coming to Igloo for weddings. "The bride and groom can bring in their own files and we'll print the designs," Dekker says. "Second, and more popular, Igloo will make the designs in-house from scratch using things like inspiration boards or Pinterest. The third option is to choose something we've done in the past, and we get permission from that bride and groom so we can use it again." From start to finish, the design and printing process takes about 6 to 8 weeks.
Other things to know? Igloo Letterpress offers calligraphy in-house, a trend that many couples uses on envelopes. And speaking of envelopes, Dekker shares that colored envelopes have been making a statement recently. "Couples want their invitation to look different than everything else that comes in the mail," she says.
