If you've ever waited eagerly in line at the carryout "chicken window," taken a seat at the alfresco community table and breathed in the spicy heat of crisp fried chicken, then you know exactly why we're finger-licking smitten with Hot Chicken Takeover.

A pop-up on a best new restaurants list might seem odd. But if you've ever waited eagerly in line at the carryout "chicken window," taken a seat at the alfresco community table and breathed in the spicy heat of crisp fried chicken, then you know exactly why we're finger-licking smitten with Hot Chicken Takeover. Being greeted by the contagious smile of owner Joe DeLoss doesn't hurt either. It's hard to believe that, just a year ago, DeLoss hadn't ever tried the cayenne-laden, Nashville-style hot chicken. Now, he's served more than 17,000 meals since April (in varying levels of heat) and raised $63,000 for a mobile version of the pop-up via Kickstarter. Not bad for an eatery open just two days a week. Alas, the Olde Town East window shut down in November. But lucky us: Starting this month, hot chicken takes over the NoMa Kitchen at North Market for Friday through Sunday service. We'll see you in line. hotchickentakeover.com
